Girls Varsity Tennis · Lady Cavaliers Tennis Defeats Westwood

The Lady Cavs Varsity Tennis team took another big step towards qualifying for the regional playoffs with a 6-0 win over Westwood High School yesterday afternoon. The team has improved their region record to 4-5 for the season. The Lady Cav’s hosted The Lady Redhawks on Senior night. “It has been a privilege watching these young Ladies grow up, both on and off the courts. Tyler Wise, Grace Harling and Kai Iekar have been the backbone of this team for years now, 3 years for  Tyler, 4 years for Grace and 2 years for Kai to be exact. None of our players have grown up playing tennis or having lessons most of their lives. For tennis this means learning quickly. This is a very hard game to learn over longer periods of time, much less learning quickly. I am so proud of the hard work they have put in to this team and the willingness to learn on the job. They have had to endure hard seasons in the past but now that hard work is coming through for them. I am very happy to watch them succeed. Without a doubt, however, the work these girls do off the courts, academically and in their communities, far exceeds even the massive efforts required for team tennis. It truly has been an honor to be a part of these Ladies lives and I will miss them terribly but I will never forget these years together.”, Coach Harling. The following is a listing of individual match play from yesterday: #1 Grace Harling 6-1;6-1, #2 Kate Ellis 6-1;6-3, Claire Maddox 6-1;6-4, Gracie Boyce 6-1;6-3, Tyler Wise 6-2;6-1, #2 Doubles Kai Iekar and Phoebe Harling 6-1;6-1. #8 Ashley Dennis 8-7(7-2), Anaya Lighty 8-2, Ayana Lighty 8-1. Congratulations Ladies and Go Cav’s!
